# Hair Color Try-On > Free, in-browser hair color preview. Choose a selfie or take one with the webcam, and the page finds the hair on the visitor's own device and recolors it: 15 natural dye shades, 12 fashion colors or any custom color. Nothing is uploaded, no sign-in, no credits. URL: https://hair-color-try-on.skillsafe.ai/ ## What it does - Input: one photo (choose, drag and drop, paste) or a webcam snapshot (front or back camera). - Shades: natural (jet black, soft black, dark brown, chestnut, medium brown, auburn, burgundy, copper, caramel, strawberry blonde, honey blonde, golden blonde, ash blonde, platinum, silver grey), fashion (rose gold, pastel pink, hot pink, cherry red, sunset orange, violet, lavender, electric blue, midnight blue, teal, mint, emerald) and a custom color picker. - Look: intensity, highlights (lifts the brightest strands toward a lighter tone of the shade), placement all over, ombré (roots kept) or tips only. - Hair edge: soften and grow or shrink the hair mask; tap to add a missed area or remove a wrongly colored one, with undo. - Compare: after only, a before/after slider, side by side, or the hair mask itself. - Save: PNG of the result, a labelled before + after JPG, and the shade details as text for a stylist. - Two examples open instantly with precomputed hair masks, so nothing downloads until you use your own photo. ## How it works Face landmarks (MediaPipe Tasks Vision, Apache-2.0) place prompts on the hair and keep the face clear; SlimSAM (Apache-2.0, on onnxruntime-web, WebGPU or WebAssembly) cuts the hair out. When a dedicated hair segmentation model is available on SkillSafe's model host, the page uses it instead. Model files are fetched by their SHA-256 and checked before use. The color is applied in CIE Lab: the new shade sets the hair's average lightness and hue while each strand keeps its light-and-dark texture. ## Limits A preview, not a dye result: real color depends on the starting shade, porosity and product, and going much lighter usually needs bleach. Hats, scarves, very short hair and several faces in one photo are harder; use the tap fixes.
